Why do we love this wine?

Keen followers of the ’fo may be familiar with this Barolo from previous years, and how long it lasted (hint: not long). These rising stars of Barolo are back, and the 2013 is singing!

This small-batch Barolo is from a mix of very old and mature teenage vines, handpicked and aged in a traditional old oak botte (3,000 litres). It spent three years in there, and a further four in bottle before being ready for mofo mouths. With all the tar, roses, spice, black and red fruits you’d imagine, it’s balanced and beautiful. But let’s face it, you came here for tannins, and you get ’em - a whole glorious ‘peacock tail’ of silky-but-sandy lusciousness, bringing wave after wave of savoury fruit, and the complexity of over seven years of wine age and all that vine age. It’s in a prime spot, but needs a decant and will be all the better for it.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Part of our Women in Wine Collection

We are committed to ALWAYS having wines available that are made by women. In an industry that’s still dominated by men, we believe in celebrating the incredible work women are doing. Here’s to our Women in Wine! This one has a female winemaker, but because it’s a Black Market wine we’re sworn to secrecy. She’s a deadset legend, though.
